Socket bayonet

About this object

A socket bayonet, origin unknown but bears close resemblance and size to the socket bayonet used with British Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-musket. The blade has three fluted sides tapering to a point. Overall length is 520mm, blade length is 440mm. The number 531 is etched where blade is attached to the socket and the number 5664 etched on to the bore. The locking ring is missing but marks on bore show where it would have been attached.
