These models are quite rare and this is believed to be the only road worthy one in NZ.
This Volkswagen was purchased from Clarke Motors Invercargill by Doug Ballantyne on the 15th March 1955. He used it as a school bus in the Riversdale - Wendonside district for many years. He was an alcoholic, and his son Austin would wait in the bus while his father was at the pub. A circle had been scratched into the dashboard from Austin's boredom. In 1990 the ownership transferred from the Ballantyne family to Neville Nicholson and George Miller from Gore. George Millar's nephew David Taylor of Arrowtown then owned it and we purchased it from him in November 2008.
