The thumb-o-graph was an autograph book where family and friends signed and dates a box on the left hand of the page and left their thumb mark on the right. The books were popular in the first decade of the twentieth century
This book was the property of Ilma Walter. Ilma, who was born in 1890, was the daughter of Thomas Edward Walter and Sarah Ann Jeffery. The book was given to her in 1909 as a birthday present from someone called Bert. It no longer has the ink pad attached but the mark where it was is clearly visible.
