Gown, Evening with Matching Stole

About this object

Full length, waisted, sleeveless evening gown, comprising black lace overlay with gold thread and cream taffeta underlay. The underlay skirt is watermarked taffeta cut on the bias with taffeta bodice. The right shoulder strap of dress features eight cream velvet and taffeta roses. The matching stole is of black lace with gold thread, ruffled ends and central gather.

Mrs Grace McVey wore this evening dress when she and her husband, Lieutenant Commander Charles McVey, were presented to HM Queen Elizabeth 2 and the Duke of Edinburgh at a reception at Government House, Brisbane, Wednesday 17th March 1954.
