Subject and Association Description

HMAS TEAL (pendant number M1152) was one of six Royal Navy Ton class minesweepers acquired by the Royal Australian Navy in the 1960s. Built by Phillip and Co, Dartmouth in 1955 she was purchased by the RAN in 1961 and commissioned in 1962, becoming part of the Mine Counter Measure Squadron. TEAL's duties included minesweeping of WWII mines, hydrographic surveys, Far East deployments including the Indonesian Confrontation in support of Malaysia, international fleet exercises and general survey work.

TEAL was placed in operational reserve in 1973 and sold in 1977. Her battle honour is Malaysia 1964-66.
