About this object

'Since the termination of the War of 1914-1918 members of the Return Sailor, Soldiers and Airmen’s Imperial League of Australia (Inc) have endeavoured to trace and help those who served and particularly men and women with disabilities or illness unaccepted as due to War service.

Making enquiries at all Public Hospital, Convalescent Homes or other institutions throughout the Commonwealth has meant much time spent but good work done in that regard.

By the year 1936 the wants of the Cause had grown to such an extent in South Australia as to necessitate the setting up of a special Hospitals Welfare Committee to efficiently control the work. At that time an approach was made by those of us who were given authority and permission was given for organised parties to visit ex –Service personnel being patients in the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

We knew then we were asking for a great deal of co-operation from the Staff of this Hospital , which in effect meant the Nursing Staff, and particularly the Matron and Sisters in Charge of the various Wards. We as well knew over the years these good people would be called upon to answer thousands of enquiries and in other ways make time and opportunity to help us.

From the inception of the organised scheme we have met a ready response and a spirit of co-operation far beyond that which we expected and we wish to place on permanent record and make known to the Matron, Sisters and Nurses of this Hospital how much we value and highly appreciate their courtesy, consideration and helpfulness.

The Executive and Members of all Sub-Branches together with the State Board of the Return Sailor, Soldiers and Airmen’s Imperial League of Australia (S.A.)Inc. now ask the Matron , Sisters and Nurses of the Royal Adelaide Hospital to accept this address with their grateful thanks and suggest that it be placed in a suitable position in the Nursing staff quarters of the Hospital as a memento of their expressions and some slight tribute of their regard.

For and on behalf of R.S.L. Hospitals and Welfare Committee,
Return Sailor, Soldiers and Airmen’s Imperial League of Australia (S.A.)Inc.
