About this object

Vanity case, oval-shaped cardboard case covered in black silk velvet with applied glass bead decoration in blue, red, green silver and gold. Small silk faille purse with press stud and mirror inside. Lined with silk faille. Black silk velvet beaded handle and lacquered brass clasp.

Post-war handbags were designed to hold make-up; the cosmetic industry flourished under the influence of Hollywood film stars.
