The Hinton Research Library exists to support the Museum Art collection. It consists of approximately 5,000 items in five main sequences:
Books on art, with an emphasis on Australian art;
Exhibition catalogues, primarily from art galleries in Australia;
A collection of art books donated by Howard Hinton along with the art works he also donated. This collection is a snapshot of art books in the 1930s-1960s and contains some rare and valuable works;
Serial publications on art; and
books located in the Museum of Printing which includes type specimens, books on the history of printing and manuals for using and maintaining the equipment in the Printing Museum.
The collection is not for loan.
