Subject and Association Description

Also known as Iranian poppy, the flowers are the most vibrant red with the distinguished black spot near the base of the petals. This species of poppy produces thebaine, which is converted to codeine and opiates, and is prescribed to treat pain by stimulatory instead of depressant effects. Thus, cultivation of this plant is highly regulated by international law.
