Whanganui District Council’s Public Art Collection includes a wide variety of sculptures, memorials and murals located throughout Whanganui city and district. Our collection is supported by staff in the Culture and Community team, Arts Policy (2008), Public Arts Strategy (2010-2012) and the Public Art Steering Group.

Whanganui has a proud history of arts, culture and heritage. As home to significant locations such as Alexander Heritage and Research Library, New Zealand Glassworks, Royal Whanganui Opera House, Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui, and Whanganui Regional Museum, Whanganui’s thriving arts are at the heart of our identity.

The district has a beautiful river and is located on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The climate is one of the most temperate climates in the world and has many eateries and sporting venues. The district is the only place where hot glass may be studied at UCOL, a tertiary institution.
