About this object

Located at the junction of Virginia Road and Great North Road, the memorial is made of shellrock and intended to honour the New Zealand Rifle Brigade's actions during the First World War.

The idea for the memorial seat came from Mr Henry Keesing and at the time it was built, was the only memorial to the Rifle Brigade in New Zealand. It was unveiled by Brigadier General A C Stewart who commanded the 2nd Battalion of the Brigade.
