Color-illustrated edition of the novel ¨Deerslayer: or The First War-Path¨ by James Fenimore Cooper. Illustrated by N.C. Wyeth. Printed by Scribner Press, 1929.

Believed to be the prequel to Cooper's "Leatherstocking" series, featuring the protagonist Natty Bumppo in 18th century upstate New York. In this installment, Bumppo is one of the few people who opposes scalping other humans. This starts a cycle of kidnapping and violence.
