Handled pedestal cup; 400-450; 1984.6.80

Handled pedestal cup

About this object

A small pedestal cup with a semicircular handle of fifth-century date. It appears to be either an Oxfordshire Slipped Ware or a late Much Hadham Ware copy; no parallels for the form exist among Oxfordshire wares. Found in a fifth-century grave in California, Baldock, together with a jug of equally unusual design that appears to be part of a matching set.
