Postcard of suffragette and organiser of Women's Social and Political Union, Mrs Nellie Alma Martel. Knee length portrait of woman, from left. She wears a large hat and a jacket/ cape; her right hand rests on a chair with a caricature boss to the arm.
Nellie sailed to Australia in 1879, where she campaigned for women's votes from 1897 to 1904. She returned to England in that year and joined Mrs Pankhurst's WSPU in 1905. She took part in a raucous meeting in Hitchin Town Hall in March 1907.
