About this object

Gelatin photoprint of Lt. Frank E. Young, VC. Copy print by A. E. Lupton of Nightingale Road, Hitchin, of unknown original. Head and should of Young in uniform, in green card mount, size 304 x 152 mm.

Frank joined the Hitchin Company of the Hertfordshire Regiment as a boy bugler, aged 14. He was killed at the Battle of Havrincourt and earned the Victoria Cross for bravery, including rescuing two of his men and bombing an enemy machine gun position. His family presented his VC to the successors to the Hertfordshire Regiment in 1959.
