About this object

An illuminated address presented to Alexander Dickie on his retirement as a director of the Mataura Dairy Factory Company Limited, recognising his 29 years of continuous service (1887-1916). The address is illustrated with photographs of Mr Dickie and his farm 'Eden Glen'.

Illuminated addresses are presented to mark special occasions or to celebrate a person's achievement. Calligraphy is a feature of such addresses. The decoration is personalised and includes miniature pictures relating to the life and work of the person being honoured.
