About this object

Music Score; 'Maureen' music by James Jesse Stroud and words by Henry Walkem. Henry Walkem was a blacksmith at the Mataura Paper Mill for many years. He and his mother Lena and sister Mavis were the only Maori family living in Mataura till the late 1930's. In 1936 he had 2 compositions, [ 'Maureen' and 'Cottage of Golden Dreams' ] published by the British and Dominions Music Company, London. He was a noted for his singing performances at local functions.
James Jesse Stroud was a musician and manufacturer of Gore.
