The first Porcupine Gorge National Park Challenge was held in 2001 and is run in conjunction with the Mt Walker Fun Run (run the following day). The categories in the Gorge Challenge are Open Men, Open Women, Under 16 Boys, Under 16 Girls, Under 12 Boys and Under 12 Girls. There is also an award for the first resident of the Flinders Shire who crosses the line.

Prize money and trophies are awarded to the first four place getters in the Open divisions, with trophies & prize packs awarded to those in the junior divisions.

Porcupine Gorge is located approximately 66kms north-west of Hughenden, Queensland.
