Geoff Schubert owned and operated a number of timber mills on the Comboyne Plateau, west of Port Macquarie including the Comboyne town mill, the last mill in the area to operate, closing in 1963.

The Comboyne Plateau was once covered with dense sub-tropical rainforest however from 1910 to the early 1960s most of the land was cleared for farming. The timber industry provided an income for almost all the families who lived on the Comboyne and were not dairying. At its peak, some 80 local men were employed in the timber industry including bush workers, bullockies, lorry drivers and mill workers.

The Schubert mill played a significant role in the clearing and economic development of the Comboyne, employing many men, some of them for over 20 years. Several of them were members of the Schubert family.

These records were used by author Helen Hannah when researching the publication 'Together in this Jungle Scrub'.
