Mourning Pendant, Mary Brown

About this object

Oval shaped gold mourning pendant locket with hinge on one side and large suspension loop at top. Inside is a miniature portrait of a young woman assumed to be Mary Bannister Brown [c1808-1877], nee Reddall on one side and on the other a lock of brown hair. The pendant is engraved on front 'MR' in decorative script and on the reverse 'In Memory of/ MARY B BROWN/ OBIT/ June 19th 1877'.

Mary Bannister Reddall married William Lamond Brown in 1857 and died at her residence Glen Alpine, Campbelltown. Mary was the daughter of Rev. Thomas Reddall, the first incumbent of St. Peter's Church, Campbelltown.
