Banner, Carnival of the PinesAbout this object
Blue felt banner with yellow corded fringe on the lower edge. The banner has screen printed text 'Port Macquarie/ HISTORICAL FLOAT/ Carnival of the/ Pines/1964' and motifs including girls in bikinis, pine trees, beach umbrella, Easter egg, water skier and boat. The top of the banner is over sewn to create a pocket which holds a small wooden rod with painted ends and attached yellow hanging cord.
The banner was awarded to the Hastings Historical Society (now Port Macquarie Historical Society) for their historical float in the 1964 Carnival of the Pines procession held on Easter Monday, 30 March. The theme of the float was an 1830 christening with the Society's President, Frank Manser, as Minister.
The procession was a regular feature of the annual festival which commenced in 1955 and the Hastings Historical Society was a regular participant. The Carnival of the Pines attracted thousands of holidaymakers to Port Macquarie each year.
