Newspaper, The Port Retort

About this object

Tabloid size, single edition newspaper comprising 12 pages with illustrations and photographs. The humorous paper was published by the Port Macquarie Apex Club for local circulation over Easter 1967 as a fund raising initiative. The subtitles include the Hastings Shire Laxette, The Hibbard Horrorscope and the Cat-Eye Opener.

The editor's note under the heading 'Stop Press' is printed on the front page and reads: 'Port Macquarie, Saturday (A.A.P.) - Reuters): All names mentioned in this publication are ficticious. However if any public figure believes he recognises himself or circumstances in which he has been involved, in the news columns, he can take it as a compliment. Only the prominent citizens, the public-spirited leaders of our community could hope to rate a mention in such a wonderful publication. It is anticipated that through the co-operation (some call it "the fleecing") of advertisers, Apex Community Service funds will benefit by about $300. - Muck Raker, Editor (Age 4)'
