About this object

Framed oil painting of Samuel Welsford's cottage, at Hibbard, Port Macquarie. Samuel Henry Welsford [1874-1956], leading hand at the Hibbard Timber Mills, built the timber cottage for his family at Hamilton (later known as Hibbard) in 1904 from materials supplied by his employer. The Hibbard Timber Mills operated from 1879 to 1958. This painting depicts the cottage in its derelict state, many years after Welsford's death and the closing of the Hibbard Mills.
