About this object

John Neil Newton (Neil Newton) was born in 1933 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The photographer considers his work to be Romantic Documentary work. Newton is quoted to say his work, “emphasizes the rural communities that surround his farm home. Photographing working people is my main interest.” Neil Newton received his education at St. Martins School of Art in London in 1953-55 and at the VSW in Rochester, New York in 1973. Newton worked in the 1980s with Artists in the School Programs which were sponsored by the Ontario Arts Council in Dunbarton, Ontario, Canada. Newton has been a visiting throughout Canada. In 1979, Newton was a visiting artist at the Emily Carr College of Art in Vancouver and at the University of Saskatchewan, and Saskatoon, Canada. From 1976 to 1978 he worked with Artists in a program at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Neil Newton has also impressively had a Publication Catalog, called Neil Newton Retrospective, 1978 (Robert McLaughlin Gall.: Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Depicted in the image is Butler, the music teacher at the Ennskillen School in Enskillen, Ontario, Canada. The picture was taken in 1972.
