EHHTM In many country areas thatched mud built wall were a tradition that used local materials and labour. Today such items are regarded a luxury. Hendred has about 5 stretches remaining. Two interconnected in Orchard Lane 1 in Cat Street and 1 in Church Street. In a couple of other places tha mud wall remains but the top has been replaced by tile or brick. Most thatched walls in the Village that have become this bad have been left to completely decay. he stretch by the Plough and the house next door were thought not to bad but that at Star Cottage needed coalmosta complete rebuild. The hendred Estate as owners of this property undertook to do a repair job from almost scratch. This included rebuilding the mud portion using horsehair as reinforcing material.
