About this object

Bird 25cm tall, brown feathers. Killed by Catherine Flowerday's cat on 11 March 1845 as Kororareka settlers fled to waiting ships during Hone Heke's successful fourth attempt to chop down the flagstaff. Story available at Russell Museum.
