Dig deep into history at our friendly coal mining museum, housed in the local mine manager's house, built in 1890.
Coal mining displays include a reconstructed mine tunnel, a miner's cottage dating from 1890 and a set of rooms representing a typical miner's cottage interior from 1930-40.
The Museum has an extensive collection of photographs, books and archives relating to coal mining in North Island including two of the major mining accidents in the Waikato. We also have family history records and photographs, & archives on other local industries including brick making.
