Pads: Chris Martin's batting pads

About this object

As New Zealand’s third highest Test wicket-taker, behind Sir Richard Hadlee and Daniel Vettori, Chris Martin is due a significant amount of respect. He was a player who made the most of his talents and excelled on the world stage. However, the enduring memory many cricket fans have of Chris are not his achievements with the ball but his lack of ability with the bat.

Chris took 233 wickets in his Test career yet he only managed to score 123 runs. He holds the NZ record for most Test match ducks and recorded double-figures just once in his 71 Tests. These unique cricket pads further add to the batting legend of Chris Martin. Without doubt, these are the most famous pads to ever grace a cricketer’s legs, and the style will forever be linked to cricket’s greatest ‘bunny’.

In another nod to his iconic status, Auckland Cricket celebrated his retirement during a domestic T20 match, selling sweatbands emblazoned with his career stats as a testimonial fundraiser for the man himself.
