About this object

Carte de visite; in black and white, a head and shoulders photograph of a man. He is wearing a dark suit with a white handkerchief in his breast pocket. He has a moustache, and hair which is parted on the side. The photographer's name, Hartley, of 309 West Madison Street, Chicago, is printed on the bottom edge. On the reverse are printed the photographer's details, and 'Joseph Scott Soutar / Nephew of Maude [sic] Low' is written on the reverse in blue biro.

Joseph Scott Soutar purchased Fyffe House in 1935 from James Allen (Jimmy) Johnston. His aunt Maud Low (also known as Granny Low) continued to live in the house, while Soutar lived in a small bach on the property. Soutar left Fyffe House to Maud Low upon his death in 1943.
