About this object

Sarah Tutin was the daughter of Reverend John Tutin (d 1872) who was the 1st minister of St Michael's of the Angels Church, Hakaru, which was opened in 1861.

John's daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth, held Sunday School and opened a school for local children in 1861 and later formed a private girls school when the Kaiwaka Public School opened in 1870 and the Mangawai School opened on Lawrence Road in 1872.
