Tukituki or Pounder.

About this object

A wooden tukituki or pounder in poor condition. Has a hollow space in head of the tukituki. Also known as a patu muka, kuru, or potuki.
Used by Maori for pounding flax, to make clothing, ropes, baskets, fishing nets etc. Also used in food preparation e.g. fern roots.
This tukituki was found in the early 1970's by the donor on his farm, Poutu Forest Farm 'Rototuna'.
