Certificate; a certificate of honourable discharge presented to Charles John Hayward. The ornate certificate consists of red and black printed imagery including the Roman goddess Minerva or Victoria, two soldiers, the Royal coat-of-arms of the United Kingdom and various foliate and architectural motifs. The text reads: '9/1053 Trooper Charles John Hayward / New Zealand Expeditionary Force / Served with honour and was disabled in the Great War / Honourably discharged on 13th November 1919 / [signed] George R J'.
