School uniformAbout this object
School uniform; girl's navy wool serge gymslip. According to a label attached to the dress, this gymslip was worn as a hockey uniform. The front overlaps the back at the shoulders and the joins are lightly stitched with evidence that alterations have been made. Pinned to the yoke is a yellow ribbon printed '1901-1915'. Attached to the ribbon is a tin badge with the words 'Owaka District High School/75th Jubilee/1875-1950'. Sewn to the front of the dress is a monogrammed pocket of a different fabric which appears to have been taken from a woollen blazer.
Perhaps the gymslip was decorated to be worn to the school jubilee, or possibly the ribbon, badge and pocket have been attached as momentos of school days.
