About this object

This photographic postcard celebrates Ernest Collins Moon, who was born in 1868. An extract from the Raglan County Chronicle, July 28th, 1938, reads: “Born a cripple unable to walk and without the use of his hands, he so mastered his infirmity that he was appointed postmaster at Te Uku. He learned to write with his feet, and for many years fulfilled all the duties of this position with the greatest care”.
“A man of brilliant intellect and an excellent debater. He had a very large correspondence with foreign countries, and was a great reader, and in his spare time did some really artistic cabinet making. Among his many activities was included quiet work for the Melanesian Mission”.
This montage of three photographs shows Te Uku Post Office and the postmaster, Ernest C Moon.
