About this object

WW1 silk wall hanging with pink fringe. Depicting the Sphinx, pyramids and a Bedouin on a camel, with photos of leaders and their flags from the Allied Powers in WW1. From left to right, Belgium with King Albert I, Russia with Tsar Nicholas II, Egypt with Sultan Hussein Kamal, United Kingdom with King George V, France with Raymonde Poincare, Italy with Victor Emmanuel II. Writing reads, ' Souvenir of Egypt' with verse, 'Heaven's light be our guide, Rule Britannia, Evil be to him who evil thinks, God Save The King'. Other writing reads, ' Brevete No. III Trib. Mixte du Caire' and 'Imp F III PEGNI Cairo'. On the back stamped in red, 'LE DESSE IN NE PORTANT PAS NOTRE CACHET EST CONSIDERE COMME VOLE'. In blue, ' Berberian Azhavarian & Co HELIOPOLIS'. Edgar Worthington brought this hanging back from Cairo as a gift to his mother.
