About this object

Three pieces one is a large square and 2-3 are identical circles. All consist of black buffed cotton ground with embroidered scenes, hemmed and fringed with blue cord. All read, ' Souvenir of Egypt 1943'. In centre is a laurel wreath with a crown and 'NZ Onward' inside. That is the extent of No. 2-3 decoration. No.1 has scenes around the border, each corner is different, Nile scene with palm tree, boat, and two pyramids; desert scene with a man and a camel; a pyramid by itself with palm trees and finally a building of some sort, perhaps a mosque (Mosque of Mohammad Ali?). In between each corner scene is three palm trees.
