Name/Title

Summer Siesta

About this object

An expressionist painting describing a heady summer siesta 'vision' of the figure reclining on a chaise lounge. Summer fruits and flowers which indicate the season are evident on the table at centre, with a stylised linear drawing of a chair to the right. The linear horse motif behind the duck egg blue vase is based on an ornament owned by the artist. The grilled window indicates that this is the kitchen area at 36 Tasman Street, Nelson, where the artist lived from 1977 - 1986.
