Shell with a painted scene of a New Zealand Maori Village circa 1880.
Possibly a painting of a Te Arawa kainga in the thermal region prior to the eruption of Mt. Tarawera in 1886.
Attributed to John Philemon Backhouse (1845-1908).
Probably painted in the Te Arawa or Rotorua Lakes regionInscription and Marks
