Data harvesting and programming interfaces

We've been working hard on our programming interfaces to eHive. The first part of this has now been released with the addition of support for data harvesting in the latest upgrade.

The next eHive workshop is to be held in New Lanark in May.  Anne Harlow will be presenting an overview of eHive including a ‘hands on’ workshop where you will learn how to set up an eHive account, catalogue objects and publish your collection online.

eHive Features Survey

We have completed our inaugural eHive features survey. For those that participated in the survey, thank you for taking the time to fill this out. Your feedback is valuable for shaping our development plans.  We will be running surveys again in the future, as they are a simple and quick way you can help us prioritise our planned features.  Advanced searching and more options for sorting and reporting featured highly in our survey results.

The next eHive workshop is to be held in Spalding, Lincolnshire in November.  Zoë Hill will be presenting an overview of eHive including a ‘hands on’ workshop where you will learn how to set up an eHive account, catalogue objects and publish your collection online.  Anita Hollinshead (Museum Development Officer Derbyshire & Lincolnshire) will also discuss digitisation.  

eHive event in London

Collections Trust in London are hosting a free half day event showcasing eHive in November. Vernon Systems' UK representative, Zoe Hill, will be joined by Collections Trust CEO Nick Poole and Networks Officer Laura Whitton to showcase eHive, discuss digitisation and provide pointers to helpful resources.  We will also be demonstrating eHive's latest feature, eHive Toolkit.  Using this you can now create your own customised website that includes your collection content from eHive.

NZMuseums developments - June 2010

The last two months has been a busy time for the web development team. One of the projects has been the redevelopment of the NZMuseums website. McGovern Online have updated the branding of the site and this has flowed through to all pages. The home page has also had a major overhaul.

Mike Ellis, a social web specialist based in the UK, posted an excellent presentation on why setting your content free is a good thing. You can read the presentation here.

The First Month for NZMuseums

The NZMuseums site has been up and running for one month now and has had great feedback. We are pleased at the positive reception it has had within the sector and from the general public. We have done a number of updates of the site, including minor tweaks behind the scenes and loading of new content. In the first month the site had 5,500 visitors from 60 countries (and we're fast approaching the 10,000th visitor milestone!).

NZMuseums Goes Live!

We’re pleased to have reached a major milestone in the development of eHive. On September 17th 2008, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa hosted the official launch of the NZMuseums website. The website provides a directory of 400 museums in New Zealand and showcases the collections of 50 of these as at the launch date. The museum information, collection catalogues and images are all stored in eHive.

New Copyright Laws

Copyright laws have changed in 2008 for the first time since 1994. We've written some guidelines to provide you with introductory information on some of the copyright questions that are often raised in the museum, heritage and arts sectors. There is no need to feel confused or uncertain about copyright as long as you do a bit of research!
