River Dolphins; Mark Southcombe; October 2010
Name/Title
River Dolphins
About this object
This work is inspired by the historic wharf piles (known as 'River Dolphins') that remain standing at places in the Whanganui River. The three poles reflect the Whanganui River Hapu of Tama Upoko, Hinengakau and Tupoho, located in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the Whanganui River. The blue poles, with blue lights at night, signal the entranceway from a distance guiding the traveler home and marking the point of departure when leaving.
