Western Bay of Plenty Culture & Heritage Collection Facility

The collection of approximately 30 000 objects was built up over 40 years. Originally on display at the Hamilton Street Museum it became one of the attractions at the Tauranga Historic Village. In 1998 the Historic Village was closed and the collection moved into storage.

The collection is diverse and rich with local significance including pieces of national importance. It provides the only comprehensive collection of the District’s material culture. It also represents a considerable level of support from the local community over the years through the donation of valued family items and many thousands of volunteer hours.
