About this object
Fine cream silk two piece dress. Blouse (No.1) has long sleeve with square neck with matching long skirt (No.2), both have ornate drawn thread work and is completely hand stitched. Blouse has open work edging on a square neckline, to which the front of the bodice is slightly gathered, below is a thin band of openwork, below that is a large rectangle of openwork and above hem is another thin band of openwork. The cuffs of the long sleeves are also open worked, closed by two dome buttons. The long skirt is gathered with ruffles onto wide boned off-white petersham ribbon, fastened at top of a side placket opening with two metal hooks and thread eyes. Hem has been hemstitched. Elaborate openwork bands in geometric patterns above hem from ankle to knee. Very delicate condition. Thought to be from c.1918-24.
